The base is the whole job
Asphalt is the part you see, but the base is the part that lasts. A surface laid thin over untouched clay looks fine for a year and fails for a decade after that. We strip the topsoil, build and compact a real aggregate base, and grade it to shed water — because that hidden work, not the top coat, is what decides whether a driveway lasts five years or twenty. In our expansive red clay, cutting the base short is cutting the life of the pavement short.

North Alabama’s hot, humid summers oxidize asphalt, its rainfall works water into any crack, and its winter freeze-thaw pries those cracks open. So we build to drain and we maintain on schedule — sealcoating and crack-filling before the damage starts, not after. Paving for the climate we actually have is the difference between a surface that ages gracefully and one that fails early.
We tell you the truth about your options
A lot of paving is knowing when not to sell the big job. Sometimes a sealcoat or an overlay on a sound base is all a driveway needs; sometimes the base has failed and an overlay would just hide the problem for a year. We assess the base honestly and give you the real answer — repair, resurface or replace — rather than defaulting to whichever pays us more.
